TLDR Trichosporon inkin and Trichosporon mucoides can cause white piedra on scalp hair.

Three cases of white piedra of scalp hair were reported, each presenting with nodules on the hair. Potassium hydroxide preparations revealed clustered arthrospores and mature, easily detachable nodules. Cultures identified Trichosporon inkin in 2 patients and Trichosporon mucoides in 1 patient, both of which are unusual causes of white piedra.
