TLDR Trichoscopy is effective for tracking treatment progress in hair loss when used by an experienced doctor.
The study investigated the effectiveness of trichoscopy in monitoring treatment response in 95 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Trichoscopic images were obtained from a specific area on the scalp before and after treatment. Two doctors, one experienced and one less experienced in hair diseases and trichoscopy, evaluated these images. The study found that trichoscopy, when performed by a doctor experienced in hair diseases and trichoscopy, can be used as a sensitive method in monitoring the treatment response in patients with AGA. This is based on the determination of terminal, vellus and total hair count (THC, VHC, ToHC) and terminal to vellus hair (T/V) ratio. If performed by a less experienced doctor, it can be preferred as a sensitive follow-up method using THC and ToHC.
