TLDR The Trichoscope is a valuable tool for diagnosing and monitoring hair loss conditions.
The study aimed to determine the characteristic features of hair follicles using a Trichoscope in diagnosing alopecia areata (AA) and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and to evaluate the technique's diagnostic value. Conducted on 59 patients aged 18 and above at the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, the study found that the Trichoscope significantly improved the visibility of clinical features compared to the naked eye. In AA patients, features like black dots, yellow dots, exclamation mark hairs, and broken hairs were more frequently observed. In AGA patients, the Trichoscope highlighted a diversity in hair shaft diameter, yellow dots, and a honeycomb-like pigment network. The study concluded that the Trichoscope is a valuable tool for enhancing clinical assessment and should be considered useful in diagnostic and monitoring practices.
