The study discusses a system called "TRICHOASSIST" that uses image processing to analyze hair and scalp features, aiding in the diagnosis of scalp diseases like alopecia and telogen effluvium. The system allows professionals to upload or take images of the scalp using a dermatoscope. These images are then enhanced through various techniques such as resizing, sharpening, denoising, blurring, gray scaling, binarization, and morphological changes. The enhanced image is then analyzed to extract parameters like hair length, hair thickness, number, and density of vellus and terminal hair, and white spots. The system generates a comprehensive report of these parameters, which can be compared with previous reports to monitor the condition over time. This cost-effective system can assist practitioners in diagnosing diseases and taking effective preventive and curative measures.
