TLDR Trichodysplasia spinulosa is a rare skin disease in immunocompromised patients caused by a specific virus targeting hair follicle cells.
Trichodysplasia spinulosa (TS) was identified as a rare skin disease affecting immunocompromised patients, caused by a specific polyomavirus. The study used polymerase chain reaction and skin biopsy immunostaining to demonstrate that follicular keratinocytes were the primary target of the trichodysplasia spinulosa-associated polyomavirus in a pediatric case. The pathophysiological mechanisms of TS remained not fully understood.
