TLDR Baricitinib may effectively treat sudden hair whitening and regrowth in some cases.
This case report discusses a 60-year-old male with rheumatoid arthritis who experienced canities subita, characterized by sudden hair whitening and an alopecic patch, alongside alopecia areata (AA). Treatment with baricitinib, a Janus kinase inhibitor, led to significant hair repigmentation and regrowth within 8 months. The case supports the hypothesis that canities subita may be a manifestation of AA, as baricitinib is effective in treating AA. The findings suggest baricitinib as a potential treatment for canities subita, especially in cases associated with AA, though further research is needed to explore its efficacy and mechanisms.
