TLDR The "in-motion" technique for hair removal is less painful and safer than the traditional method, with similar effectiveness.
The study compared traditional and "in-motion" intense pulsed light (IPL) techniques for hair removal in 30 patients with skin phototypes 1 to 4. Both methods were similarly effective in hair reduction, with the traditional IPL achieving a 74.6% reduction and the "in-motion" technique achieving 70.2%. The "in-motion" technique resulted in significantly less pain and was preferred by patients, offering a better safety profile and faster treatment. Both techniques caused similar mild redness, with no severe side effects reported. The "in-motion" method, using lower energy and a multi-pass approach, is potentially safer and more comfortable, making it suitable for less experienced practitioners. Further studies with more participants are recommended to confirm these findings.
