TLDR Tea polyphenol–zinc helps protect the liver and intestines from oxidative stress.
The study examined the effects of tea polyphenol–zinc nanocomplexes (Tp-Zn) on diquat-induced oxidative stress in C57BL/6 mice, involving 5 groups of 6 mice each. Tp-Zn significantly reduced oxidative stress in the liver and small intestine by enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities and reducing oxidative damage markers. It improved liver function by lowering serum levels of AST, ALT, and AKP, and enhanced intestinal barrier integrity by upregulating tight junction proteins. The protective effects are likely mediated through the activation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway, suggesting Tp-Zn as a promising therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-related conditions.
