TLDR Ultraviolet light helped hair growth more effectively than triamcinolone acetonide.
Two groups of patients with subtotal to universal areate type alopecia were treated, 6 with intralesional triamcinolone acetonide suspension and 6 with ultraviolet light irradiation from a Kromayer lamp. The treatment was applied to one half of the scalp, with the untreated half as a control. Triamcinolone acetonide temporarily stimulated hair growth in 2 of the 6 patients but later inhibited it in 3 patients. Ultraviolet light irradiation stimulated hair growth in 4 of the 6 patients but did not initiate it.
