TLDR 2% topical minoxidil helps hair regrowth in women with androgenetic alopecia.
In a study conducted in 1991, 28 women with mild to moderate androgenetic alopecia were treated with either 2% topical minoxidil or a placebo. After 32 weeks, the group using minoxidil showed a statistically significant increase in nonvellus hair growth compared to the placebo group (p = 0.006). Investigator assessments indicated better moderate regrowth in the minoxidil group (p = 0.007), although participants did not notice a difference between the treatments. The study concluded that 2% topical minoxidil was effective in treating female androgenetic alopecia.
