Topical Cyclosporine in Male Pattern Alopecia

Amos Gilhar, Thomas Pillar, Amos Etzioni
TLDR Topical cyclosporine led to significant hair growth in some men with male pattern baldness.
In a 1990 study, the effects of topical cyclosporine on male pattern alopecia were investigated in a double-blind trial involving 10 subjects treated with cyclosporine and 3 with olive oil over 4 months. Out of the 8 participants who completed the study, significant hair growth was observed in 2 individuals, with one achieving cosmetically satisfactory results. No systemic or cutaneous side effects were reported.
