A Bibliometric Study of the Top 100 Most Cited Articles on Melanoma: Insights Into Research Trends and Characteristics

    This bibliometric study analyzed the top 100 most cited articles on melanoma, published between 1969 and 2020, to understand research trends and characteristics. The study found that the average number of citations ranged from 36.8 to 893.9, with a mean of 176.8. Key research topics shifted significantly after 2010, focusing on drug research, including safety, efficacy, resistance, and adverse effects, with a notable increase in studies on immunotherapy agents like CTLA-4, PD-1/PD-L1, ipilimumab, and nivolumab. The rise of immunotherapy notably increased citation frequency and altered the landscape of melanoma research.
