TLDR Cold plasma treatment for hair loss was well tolerated and showed improvement in most patients.
In 2020, a clinical pilot study was conducted on 14 patients suffering from Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), a chronic form of hair loss, using an indirect Cold Atmospheric (Physical) Plasma (CAP) treatment method. The treatment involved using a CAP-treated liquid as a topical therapy. Four patients were treated for three months, while ten patients were treated for six months. The indirect CAP treatment was well tolerated by the patients. Although the primary goal of the study was not to assess efficacy, most patients reported improvement, and the investigator’s assessment also showed improvement in most patients. This study laid the groundwork for longer, more extensive trials to systematically assess the efficacy of indirect CAP treatment for AGA.
