TLDR A specific gene variant (rs4833095) is linked to a higher risk of alopecia areata in Koreans.
The study investigated the association between TLR1 polymorphisms and alopecia areata. Researchers from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Republic of Korea, conducted the study. They found that specific polymorphisms in the TLR1 gene were significantly associated with an increased risk of developing alopecia areata. This suggested that genetic variations in TLR1 could play a role in the pathogenesis of this autoimmune condition. The findings provided a potential target for future therapeutic strategies and a better understanding of the genetic factors contributing to alopecia areata.
