TLDR An adult had a rare scalp infection in the forehead area, treated successfully with itraconazole.
Favus, a rare chronic inflammatory scalp infection, typically affects children but can occasionally present in adults. This case involves an immunocompetent adult with a psoriasiform plaque in the glabella ('bindi' area) without scalp involvement. Diagnosis was confirmed using potassium hydroxide stains after the patient declined a skin biopsy. Treatment with systemic itraconazole led to complete clinical and mycological resolution with no relapse. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of atypical presentations in adults and the continued relevance of simple stains in resource-limited settings.
