TLDR Higher testosterone and DHEA-S levels may be linked to male pattern baldness.
This study investigated the role of testosterone and Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S) as biomarkers in male androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by comparing 35 male patients with AGA to 35 age and sex-matched controls without hair loss. Results showed that the AGA group had significantly higher levels of serum LH, prolactin, testosterone, DHEA-S, and free androgen index, while serum FSH and SHBG levels were significantly lower compared to the control group. These findings suggest that these hormonal differences could be associated with the development of AGA.
