TLDR Hair loss can occur after treating diabetic ketoacidosis, especially with rapid weight loss and high soft drink intake.
This case report describes a 28-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus, linked to heavy soft drink consumption, who developed telogen effluvium after treatment for euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis with luseogliflozin. The patient experienced significant hair loss two months post-discharge, which lasted for three months. The hair loss was attributed to physical wasting from hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis, compounded by rapid weight loss. The case highlights the importance of identifying triggers for telogen effluvium, which often occur two to three months before hair loss onset, and emphasizes the need for psychological support due to the impact of hair loss on quality of life.
