TLDR TB lymphadenitis can occur in people with weakened immune systems, like those with SLE.
The case report described a 21-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed tuberculosis lymphadenitis, a rare extrapulmonary form of TB. Her compromised immune system, due to SLE and long-term immunosuppressive therapy, increased her susceptibility to TB. She initially presented with a 4 cm neck lump, which reduced to 2 cm following intensive antituberculosis treatment. The report emphasized the importance of considering TB in SLE patients on high-dose steroid treatment, as their risk for TB, especially extrapulmonary forms like lymphadenitis, was elevated. It highlighted the need for better screening and preventive measures for latent TB in these patients.
