TLDR t-Flavanone helps improve male pattern hair loss by making hair roots stronger.
In a study from February 20, 2016, researchers found that trans-3,4'-Dimethyl-3-hydroxyflavanone (t-flavanone) significantly improved male pattern hair loss (AGA) and hair-anchoring strength. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involved 50 healthy male volunteers with AGA who applied a vasodilator-containing hair lotion with varying concentrations of t-flavanone twice daily for 30 weeks. The study concluded that t-flavanone promotes hair growth by enhancing cell-cell adhesions in hair follicles, as evidenced by the upregulation of desmoglein protein expression in vitro. The research was funded by Kao Corp.
