TLDR Topical calcipotriol successfully treated hair loss in three patients with Alopecia Totalis.
In a study from 2020, three patients with Alopecia Totalis (AT) who had not responded to other treatments were treated with topical calcipotriol for 12 weeks and monitored for hair regrowth using photographic assessment, Severity of Alopecia Tool score (SALT), Hair Pull Test, and physical examination. All three patients experienced complete regrowth of scalp hair after the treatment course, and no relapse was observed in the following 6 months. The study concluded that topical calcipotriol was a successful treatment for AT in these patients without significant adverse side effects, but emphasized the need for further controlled studies to confirm its safety and efficacy due to the small sample size.
