TLDR Calcipotriol cream can effectively and safely treat mild-to-moderate patchy hair loss.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of topical calcipotriol for treating mild-to-moderate patchy alopecia areata (AA) in 48 patients over 12 weeks. Calcipotriol cream was applied twice daily, and results showed significant improvement: 69.2% of patients achieved a total response, 75% had ≥ 50% hair regrowth, 62.5% had ≥ 75% regrowth, and 27.1% had complete regrowth. The mean Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score significantly decreased by week 12 (P=0.001). The findings suggested that calcipotriol could be a safe and effective treatment for mild-to-moderate patchy AA, warranting further extensive controlled studies.
