TLDR Oral minipulse therapy with betamethasone effectively promotes hair regrowth in alopecia areata with fewer side effects.
A study involving 46 patients with alopecia areata tested the efficacy of minipulse therapy using 3 mg of betamethasone taken orally on 2 consecutive days per week. The results showed that 67.4% of patients experienced effective hair regrowth. Side effects included acne (14 patients), weight gain (11 patients), gastrointestinal discomfort (6 patients), and facial flushing or edema (5 patients), while 19 patients reported no side effects. The study concluded that oral minipulse therapy with betamethasone was effective in arresting alopecia areata progression and promoting hair regrowth, with fewer and less severe side effects compared to methylprednisolone pulse therapy.
