Study of the Efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng in the Treatment of Androgenic Alopecia
September 2009
in “Journal of Ginseng Research”
TLDR Korean red ginseng can significantly increase hair density and thickness in people with androgenic alopecia.
In a study conducted 13 years ago, 40 patients with androgenic alopecia were divided into two groups: one group took Korean red ginseng extract (3,000 mg/day) for 24 weeks, while the other took a placebo. The results showed that the group taking Korean red ginseng had a significant increase in hair density and thickness compared to the placebo group. Patient satisfaction and dermatologist evaluations of clinical photographs also confirmed the effectiveness of Korean red ginseng in treating alopecia.
