TLDR Prednisolone can quickly regrow hair in alopecia universalis, but hair falls out after stopping it.
A case study of a patient with alopecia universalis for 54 years showed that prednisolone therapy led to rapid hair regrowth, although the hair did not persist after stopping the medication. The patient had mildly decreased adrenal function, but no other significant abnormalities were found. The dosage of prednisolone required for hair regrowth was less than the average daily endogenous steroid secretion in normal individuals.

Some hair loss may be linked to chromosome 20, which isn't affected by DHT blockers like finasteride. Treatments like minoxidil, microneedling, and genetic testing are suggested, but their effectiveness for this type of hair loss is uncertain.
