SP0227 Case 1 Presentation: Arthritis, Lupus and More. Rhupus or Polyautoimmunity?

    Carolina Duarte-Rey
TLDR Managing multiple autoimmune diseases in one patient is very challenging.
This case study described a 44-year-old male with a complex history of autoimmune diseases. Initially diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2002, the patient later developed symptoms of Sjögren's Syndrome (SS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). His medical history included tropical diseases and exposure to tobacco and alcohol. Despite various treatments, including steroids, non-biologic DMARDs, anti-TNF biological treatment, and anti-CD20 therapy, the patient continued to experience persistent symptoms and drug side effects. The case highlighted the challenges in managing multiple autoimmune syndromes (MAS) in a single patient.
