TLDR Agaricus bisporus β-Glucan particles could effectively treat cervical cancer and offer antimicrobial and antioxidant benefits.
The study investigated the potential of Agaricus bisporus derived β-Glucan particles (ADGPs) as a treatment for cervical cancer, specifically targeting HeLa cells. The research demonstrated that ADGPs exhibited antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. The particles were confirmed to be polysaccharides with 1,3 glycosidic linkages and showed effective antimicrobial activity against various strains. The antioxidant activity was validated through a DPPH assay. ADGPs induced significant reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, leading to apoptosis in cancer cells, as confirmed by Propidium Iodide staining. Additionally, JC-1 staining revealed that β-Glucan disrupted the Mitochondrial Membrane Potential (MMP), resulting in HeLa cell death. The findings suggested that ADGPs could serve as an efficient therapy for cervical cancer, with additional antimicrobial and antioxidant benefits.
