TLDR Smoking can cause yellow discoloration of upper lip hair and nails.
The case report revisited the phenomenon of "smoker's mustache," characterized by yellow discoloration of the upper lip hair in men with a history of smoking, known as xanthotrichia. Observed in three men aged 54 to 71, the discoloration was attributed to tobacco by-products like tar and nicotine. It was asymptomatic and often an incidental finding during dermatological evaluations. While smoking cessation or hair removal could resolve the discoloration, most affected individuals chose to continue smoking and maintain their mustache. The report also noted that yellow-brown discoloration of the fingernails and fingertips could accompany the mustache discoloration.
