The Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) revised and validated the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) to enhance clinical relevance and incorporate advancements in SLE immunology. This effort aimed to address the limitations of previous criteria by meeting rigorous methodological standards and integrating new scientific insights. The revised criteria were intended to provide a more accurate and comprehensive framework for the classification of SLE, reflecting the evolving understanding of the disease.
