TLDR Young dogs in Odisha with dermatitis are most often infected by Microsporum fungus, and Miconazole is the most effective treatment.
In a study conducted from December 2018 to June 2019, 86 skin scrapings were collected from dogs with dermatitis symptoms such as ring-like lesions and alopecia at the Odisha Veterinary College. The dogs varied in breed and age, with the highest infection rate observed in dogs aged between 6 months and 1.5 years, possibly due to underdeveloped immunity. Microsporum species were the most common fungal infection, identified in 48.15% of the cases. Labrador retrievers and German shepherds were the most affected breeds, with infection rates of 37.03% and 25.92%, respectively. Antifungal susceptibility tests showed that Miconazole (10µg) was the most effective treatment, followed by Ketoconazole (15µg) and Clotrimazole (10µg).
