Occurrence of Dermatophytosis in Dogs from Thrissur, Kerala

    The study aimed to identify the types of dermatophytes affecting dogs in Thrissur, Kerala, by examining skin scrapings and hair from dogs with alopecia and pruritus. Samples were cultured on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and incubated for up to four weeks. The most common dermatophytes identified were Trichophyton spp. (68%) and Microsporum spp. (32%), along with other non-dermatophyte fungi such as Aspergillus spp., Sporothrix spp., and Curvularia spp. This research provided insights into the prevalence of dermatophytes in the region and their potential zoonotic implications.
