TLDR Diet changes can improve skin health by altering the immune response and skin microbiome.
Nutritional intervention can alleviate atopic dermatitis (AD) symptoms by modulating immune responses and altering skin microbiome composition. The study observed decreased levels of genes involved in immune regulation, wound healing, and hair follicle regeneration, such as PLAUR, ITGAX, TSC2, and PRKCE, and increased levels of CD83 and S100A4. Additionally, dogs fed specific diets showed changes in their skin microbiome, with significantly reduced fungal diversity and abundance of pathogenic species like Malassezia pachydermatis, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Streptococcus canis.
