TLDR Dogs with skin lesions often have blood abnormalities and damaged hair.
The study aimed to evaluate the haematobiochemical and trichographic characteristics of mucocutaneous lesions in dogs with various dermatological conditions, including mange, atopic dermatitis, dermatophytosis, juvenile cellulitis, pyoderma, and hypothyroidism with secondary Malassezia dermatitis. The lesions were commonly found around the mouth, eyes, and nostrils, with less frequent anogenital involvement. Blood tests showed anemia, a slight increase in white blood cell count, neutrophilia, eosinophilia, elevated platelet count, hyperproteinaemia, and hypoalbuminaemia. All cases had high serum C-reactive protein levels. Trichographic analysis indicated that most hairs were in the telogen phase with a higher number of primary hairs. Hair fractures were present in 20.8% of hairs, and 50.8% showed split ends. Additionally, Demodex mites were found in all cases of demodicosis through hair pluck examination.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
