Research Progress of Skin Barrier and Acne

TLDR Impaired skin barrier function worsens acne.
This paper reviews recent research on the relationship between acne pathogenesis and skin barrier function, highlighting that acne patients often exhibit abnormal skin barrier function. These abnormalities include changes in sebum membrane composition, increased transcutaneous water loss (TEWL), increased skin water content, and elevated pH levels. The severity of acne is found to be positively correlated with the extent of skin barrier damage, suggesting that impaired skin barrier function plays a significant role in the development and severity of acne.
