TLDR The Siah1 and Siah2 genes are active in mouse skin development and hair growth, especially right after birth.
The document reported on the expression patterns of Siah1 and Siah2 genes in the skin of postnatal mice, highlighting their potential roles in skin development and hair follicle morphogenesis. The study found that mRNA levels for both genes were high in the first two weeks after birth but decreased thereafter. Siah1 was primarily associated with the epithelial components of the skin, such as the basal/suprabasal epidermal layers and hair follicle sheaths, and appeared to be involved in both growth and differentiation of the epidermis initially, but later only in differentiation. Siah2 was found in the mesenchymal compartment of the skin. Both genes had expression peaks during stage 5 of hair follicle morphogenesis and early catagen, which are times of significant dermal remodeling. These findings suggest that Siah1 and Siah2 have context-specific roles in skin development, possibly by modulating the HIF signaling pathway.
