TLDR Men with prediabetes have worse sexual health and a higher risk of severe erectile dysfunction.
The study, conducted 5 years ago, analyzed data from 372 men seeking medical help for erectile dysfunction (ED) to assess the association between prediabetes (pDM) and sexual health. The results showed that 23.1% of the patients had pDM. These men had lower total testosterone levels, higher triglycerides, and higher total cholesterol values than those without pDM. Hypogonadism was more frequently reported in men with pDM (34.3% vs. 22.3%). The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) domain score was lower in pDM+ patients (12.7 vs. 16.2), indicating worse erectile function. A higher rate of severe ED was found in pDM+ patients (47.7% vs. 30.8%). Age and pDM status were independent predictors for severe ED. The study concluded that men with pDM had worse hormonal and metabolic profiles and a greater risk of severe ED.
