TLDR Higher androgen levels do not cause baldness in men.
In a 1992 study involving 110 healthy young men, researchers examined the link between sex hormone levels and hair and skin characteristics. They found no significant correlation between the level of terminal hair growth and absolute androgen levels. However, significant correlations were observed between the metabolic rate of dihydrotestosterone/testosterone and the ratio of free to total testosterone. Contrary to common beliefs, men with a predisposition to balding had lower absolute serum androgen concentrations and were not more masculine in terms of body measurements. Additionally, no relationship was found between acne and androgen levels. The study concluded that higher androgen levels are not associated with baldness in men, challenging the widely held view.
