TLDR The treatment helped promote hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia.
This preliminary study investigated the effects of a lotion containing 1% 11a-hydroxyprogesterone on hair growth in 10 male patients with androgenetic alopecia over one year, compared to 8 untreated controls. The treated group showed an increase in the number and mean diameter of anagen hair roots and hair roots with a diameter less than 40 microns, while the number of hair roots in catagen/telogen decreased. In contrast, the control group experienced a decrease in anagen hair roots and an increase in catagen/telogen hair roots. The study concluded that the treatment appeared to be effective in promoting hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia.
