TLDR Lower vaspin levels in the blood may indicate a better response to fertility treatment in women with PCOS.
The study from October 1, 2017, investigated whether serum vaspin levels could predict the response to clomiphene citrate in inducing ovulation in 49 infertile women with PCOS. It was found that lower serum vaspin levels were significantly associated with successful ovulation induction, with a cut-off point of 3.74 ng/mL indicating a high sensitivity (90%) and specificity (72.4%) for predicting clomiphene resistance. The odds ratio was 14.875, suggesting a strong association between higher vaspin levels and resistance to clomiphene. Despite these findings, the authors noted the need for further research with larger sample sizes to confirm the potential of vaspin levels as a predictive marker for clomiphene resistance in PCOS.
