TLDR Higher IMA levels in male AGA patients, especially if obese, may link AGA to metabolic and heart issues.
The study evaluated serum ischemia modified albumin (IMA) levels in male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and compared them to healthy controls. It involved 80 participants divided into four groups: 30 obese AGA patients, 30 non-obese AGA patients, 10 obese controls, and 10 non-obese controls. Results showed significant differences in IMA levels between AGA patients and controls, with higher levels in obese patients compared to non-obese patients. The study suggested that obesity and AGA both contribute to increased IMA levels, which correlated with AGA duration and severity. Elevated IMA levels, known as a diagnostic indicator of myocardial ischemia, might link AGA to metabolic disorders such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk.
