Investigation of Serum Levels of T4, TSH, Free Testosterone, and Prolactin Hormones, as Well as Albumin and SHBG Proteins in Women With Hair Loss Versus Those Without

    TLDR Women with hair loss have higher free testosterone levels.
    This study investigated the serum levels of various hormones and proteins in 71 women with hair loss compared to 70 women without hair loss. The researchers measured T4, TSH, free testosterone, prolactin, Alb, and SHBG levels. The results showed no significant differences in the levels of TSH, T4, prolactin, Alb, and SHBG between the two groups. However, the level of free testosterone was significantly higher in women with hair loss. The study concluded that since androgens play a crucial role in the hair cycle, measuring free testosterone levels could be important for women with androgenic alopecia.
