TLDR All five hair fiber products improved appearance but didn't stick to completely bald areas.
In 2017, a study analyzed five different brands of organic hair fibers used to disguise hair loss, using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. The main component in products 1 (Blum Secret™) and 3 (Keratin™) was cotton, while product 2 (Viviscal™) was made of vegetal keratin. Products 4 (Toppik™) and 5 (Nanogen™) were derived from keratin organic fiber and pure, positively charged keratin respectively. Despite chemical differences, all five products provided successful cosmetic results, but were ineffective in alopecia areata due to inability to adhere to bald areas of the scalp.
