TLDR Telogen effluvium patients have a worse quality of life, but similar self-esteem compared to others.
This case-control study involving 100 patients with telogen effluvium (TE) and 100 controls found that while self-esteem levels did not significantly differ between the groups, the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scores showed a worse quality of life (QoL) in the TE group (P < 0.001). Specifically, 50% of TE patients experienced a mild effect on QoL, 22% a moderate effect, and 12% a severe effect. The study suggests that interventions to improve QoL may be more beneficial than those focused solely on self-esteem for TE patients.
