TLDR Haircare products may expose users to harmful chemicals despite regulations.
The study developed a chromatographic method to analyze nine endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in haircare products, focusing on parabens, phthalates, and triclosan. Testing 26 products revealed that while paraben levels were within legal limits, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) was present in all samples, with concentrations ranging from 151.01 μg/100 g to 1042.58 μg/100 g. The method demonstrated high accuracy, with recovery rates between 66% and 87%. The study underscores the potential health risks of chronic EDC exposure through haircare products and emphasizes the need for routine monitoring and safer alternatives.
