TLDR Treatment with specific medications and supplements improved skin condition and hair regrowth in an Akita with sebaceous adenitis.
This study details a case of sebaceous adenitis in a 5-year-old Akita dog, marked by pruritus and alopecia, initially affecting the inner ear surfaces, face, and head, and later spreading. The condition, potentially hereditary in Akitas, led to sebaceous gland destruction, scaling, hair loss, and skin inflammation. Diagnosis was confirmed through clinical, dermatological, and histopathological examinations. Treatment with topical therapy, omega-3 supplements, isotretinoin, and cyclosporine resulted in reduced inflammation and hair regrowth by day 28. The study underscores the importance of immunomodulation and skin trophic process normalization in treatment, advocating for personalized treatment plans and further research into the disease's immune mechanisms.
