TLDR A 5-year-old Akita with a rare skin condition improved significantly after treatment.
Granulomatous sebaceous adenitis is a rare, chronic skin condition in dogs, characterized by the degeneration of sebaceous glands, with suspected genetic or autoimmune causes. This case report details a 5-year-old Akita diagnosed with the condition, presenting symptoms like alopecia and hyperkeratosis. After undergoing ovariosalpingohisterectomy and starting topical treatments with keratolytic shampoo, mineral oil, and omega-3, the dog showed significant improvement within three months, achieving clinical remission and maintaining a good quality of life.
