TLDR A mixed breed dog with skin issues improved significantly after treatment and needs to avoid dampness and certain bath products to prevent it from coming back.
An 8-year-old mixed breed dog with generalized alopecia and other skin issues was diagnosed with Malassezia spp. fungal dermatitis. Treatment with oral ketoconazole, chlorpheniramine maleate, fish oil, sebasol shampoo, and specific dry food led to significant hair growth and improvement by the 28th day. The DHT itch is linked to hair loss and persists despite finasteride use; switching to dutasteride helped alleviate the itch and promoted regrowth. Some users suggest seborrheic dermatitis as a cause and recommend treatments like medicated shampoos, vitamin D, and minoxidil.
