TLDR The dog improved significantly after treatment for skin mites and fungi.
A Balinese crossbreed dog presented with itching and hair loss was diagnosed with concurrent demodecosis and malasseziosis. Clinical signs included alopecia, scales, crusts, lichenification, and hyperpigmentation. Blood tests showed anemia, leukocytosis, and neutrophilia. Skin scrapings revealed Demodex mites, and tape smears showed Malassezia colonies. Treatment included amitraz, ketoconazole, Sangobion®, cetirizine, cephalexin, and fish oil. After 30 days, the dog showed significant improvement with hair regrowth and reduced skin lesions. Regular bathing, environmental disinfection, and daily fish oil were recommended for ongoing skin and hair health.
