TLDR Outdoor living and omega-3 supplements improve rabbit fur quality.
The study examined the effects of seasonal changes, maintenance systems, and polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation on rabbit fur quality. Conducted with 16 termond breed rabbits, the research found that outdoor conditions improved hair thickness and heat protection, while linseed oil supplementation enhanced the fatty acid profile by increasing omega-3 acids and decreasing the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Although the supplementation did not significantly improve overall coat quality, it led to beneficial changes in hair flexibility and tear resistance. Seasonal variations and living conditions significantly influenced fur characteristics, with summer conditions enhancing hair strength and elongation. The study suggested that environmental factors and omega-3 supplementation could positively impact fur quality, particularly when rabbits are kept outdoors.
