TLDR Scalp injuries and harsh hair care can cause severe hair matting in children.
A 10-year-old girl developed acute hair matting (AHM) three weeks after a scalp rupture from a car accident. Despite primary repair and antiseptic treatment with povidone-iodine, her hair became matted, leading to a diagnosis of AHM. The condition, characterized by a compact mass of twisted and broken hairs, was attributed to factors such as frequent friction and the use of harsh shampoos. Treatment included cutting the matted hair and using Argan oil shampoo, but significant improvement was not observed. The case highlights the importance of gentle hair care and the potential role of scalp injuries and antiseptics in AHM development.
