TLDR More education and access to professional scalp micropigmentation services are needed for safety.
The study surveyed 131 dermatology outpatients in South Korea to evaluate their awareness and experiences with scalp micropigmentation (SMP). It revealed that while 90.8% were aware of SMP and 65.6% knew it should be performed by licensed professionals, only 3.8% had undergone the procedure, all in non-medical settings. This highlights a gap between awareness and practice, with social influences often outweighing medical considerations. The study emphasizes the need for increased access to physician-led SMP services, better public education, and stricter regulatory enforcement to ensure patient safety and adherence to clinical standards. Limitations include a small sample size of those with prior SMP experience and the single-center survey design.
